The Vision International School High School is a separate gender school that is developing into a highly regarded college preparatory program in Al Wakra. We are an American curriculum-based high school, referencing Common Core standards and other carefully selected international standards which form the basic structure of our curriculum. We aim to challenge all students, to have personal responsibility and academic initiative in preparation for college and beyond.
We have recently added Grade 11 and in 2019 we will have our first graduating class. As electives and Advanced Placement (AP) courses are added to the course catalog the high school program will gain an even sharper focus on the STEAM program, which stands for: science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. At VIS, high school students are immersed in dynamic 21st century learning environments through carefully crafted curriculum, skillfully designed data-driven instruction, and meaningful assessments.
At VIS, high school students are coached to take responsibility for their learning. The VIS high school fosters engaging students in the use of technology, data projectors, Promethean boards, and other digital devices. High school students utilize MacBooks provided by the school.
VIS places a strong emphasis on communication. Parent-Teacher Conferences are held each semester, and student progress may be monitored by parents online through PlusPortals throughout the year. The school also communicates with parents through monthly newsletters, emails, text messages, or school meetings.
School counselors are available at VIS to assist students in academic scheduling, career planning, and confidential personal counseling, as well as in college admission testing such as PSAT, SAT, or ACT.
VIS High School has a dedicated Science lab for each gender. Students use interface equipment and other tools to investigate ideas and concepts developed in class. As they do, they develop and strengthen science and engineering practices as described in the Next Generation Science Standards.
VIS High School has a 21st century technology system that utilizes the latest in classroom technology tools, apps, and online educational research assistance to promote the progressive and responsible use of internet based information.
VIS High School has formed a partnership with Doha Film Institute (DFI) and is offering a film/literature class. Students enrolled in the class work with VIS teachers and DFI filmmakers to understand all aspects of filmmaking from start to finish. Students will be actively involved in the annual Doha Film Festival held at Katara.
VIS High School will participate in Qatar's annual Model United Nations (MUN) conference. MUN is a forum for engaged high school students to debate current global issues and gain insight into the world of international politics and policy-making. Each year they welcome over 350 students from schools around the world to Doha for four days of MUN committee sessions and cultural experiences.
