SERVICE LEARNING AT VIS
Our Service Learning program aims to foster a sense of responsibility and empathy among our students. By giving them the opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom walls, we empower them to put their knowledge into practice to solve real world problems and make a positive impact in their community.
At VIS, service-learning is thoughtfully designed to empower students to identify and effectively address the unique needs of our community. Our commitment to service-learning ensures that it goes beyond mere engagement, embracing a sustained and impactful approach that aligns with the genuine needs of the community we serve.
REFLECTION AS LEARNING
Service-learning incorporates multiple challenging reflection activities that are ongoing and that prompt deep thinking and analysis about oneself and one’s relationship to society. Through this reflection, our students embark on a journey of self-discovery and gain understanding of their roles in shaping a more compassionate and inclusive world.
Service learning fosters active citizenship and a sense of social responsibility. It encourages students to be actively involved in their communities and to develop empathy and an understanding of diverse perspectives.
In service learning, both the community and the students benefit. Students gain valuable skills, knowledge, and personal growth, while the community receives needed assistance and builds positive relationships with educational institutions.
